Great report, Chuck.  Being raised in Sheffield, Alabama, I BELIEVE you when you say you caught 75-80 bluegills in only three hours.  When I was twelve, Dad bought me a Heddon bamboo fly rod and a bunch of popping bugs.  We went down to Pickwick Lake at Buzzard's Roost, near Cherokee, Ala.  Fished in a slough by the name of Airplane Holler. The willow, (may) fly spinners were falling out of the willows lining the shore, and in about the same time period, Dad and I caught 116 bluegills, all about hand size.   Helluva first time fishing.  Hooked me good! The only bad thing was that we didn't do C & R, so guess who cleaned those 116 gills!  Been fishing many times over the last 57 years, but never have I had that kind of luck again.  OF COURSE, it goes without saying.  ALABAMA is a heckuva bluegill state.

Folks: I had the most awesome day fly fishing to date today.. I set my own fly fishing "record" with 75-80 bluegills in only THREE hours.. it was 72 degrees and not a cloud in the sky.. It was as close to a "perfect" fishing day as I've ever had...Most I'd ever caught with a fly rod in one day had been about 60 during the Spring spawn, so it kinda shocked me that I beat that record on the last day of September, but ya never know when the fish are gonna bite ...
