Jimmi - I have used Coyote mask and the fur from my daughter's two Yorkshire Terriers to tie very similar flies. This should make you realize that any soft, spikey fur can be a good substitute.
Like many others, I often leave off the ribbing because it doesent seem to improve the effectiveness of the fly, but I do find that at times a gold bead head can make a difference. I approach the GRHE more as a *style* of nymph than as a specific pattern. My favorite sizes are #14 and #16. -- Joe Fusco, Sr. Member of The Missouri Trout Fishermen's Association and The Virtual Fly Box REMEMBER CANCER IS A WORD NOT A SENTENCE Reply to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] On 12/31/06, Richard Zieger <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:
I have used camel hair and llama hair to tie flies like the GRHE and they work well. I skip the gold rib most of the time because it doesn't make any difference to the fish I catch. I have tested them side by side, rib or not, and can't see a difference. Rick
