Tony: Do like I plan to do and live forever.. Then you won't have to raise the price LOL..Seriously, I dug out a box of the first flies I tied last year, and I got a lot of gall calling them "flies".. More like a "mess made on a hook" LOL...I'm not saying my flies now look good, but compared to last year, they look GREAT LOL.. I guess it's true that "practice makes perty near perfect"... Chuck

Tom was one heck of a nice guy. I had the honor of
tying beside him at three Conclaves. He inscribed my
books and I have a couple of his flies. One is the
"Pig Boat". Before I met him, I had tied the Pig Boat
along with a couple of other bass flies from his book
for a bass fly contest. I took first place. Later on
when I met Tom, I told him about that and we became
instant friends. I still lived in N.J. and we
corresponded by mail and swapped materials.
You must be talking about Mike Verdine that tied the
flies for the Shadow box. Mike was a dear friend that
is really missed. I have one of Mikes Hornets. The
Hornet is shown and Mike is mentioned in Jack Ellis's
tape on fishing for Panfish. Mike could do wonders
with deer hair. I am proud to have several packages of
his tying materials that were given to me after his
passing.
Now about my Froggies, You can have all you want at my
living price, I will not jack up the price till I am
gone. You you are tight, me first ones looked like
crap. I still have a couple of them. LOL Been tying
them since 1989.

person thinks of that certain tier, and how deep
their pockets are LOL..One thing I meant was, say
Tony's froggie.. First ones he ever tied may have
looked like crap compared to today's.. But the value
of being the first ones tied (sorta like a first
edition book I guess)...Chuck

  Chuck,

Prices of such flies are determined entirely by
demand. Doesn't mean the dollar values mean much to
me. I've got a few flies tied by Tony (mainly
from Tom Nixon fly swaps plus a froggie) none of
the will see the water (none of the Nixon swap flies
have either. I also have a ,56%er tied by Tom
Nixon, and with Tom gone you can bet that one won't
either. A couple years ago a shadow box of Tom's
flies constructed by another very good fly tier (who
died about 6 months after Tom) was auctioned off at
a dinner for the Baton Rouge conclave...fetched
something like $750-800.

Tom's fly and all three editions of his book are
staying in my collection while I'm alive...after
that who knows what they'll be worth then? By the
way, I have no plans of departing soon...

Then you'll be able to say you had one of my first
flies.. I mean, I'll only be 98 years old.. Heck,
I'll have plenty of years left to get better and
better ROFL... Chuck

Seriously, your letter here did get me to
thinking.. Outside of sentimental value, say
somebody had one of Dave Whitlock's first deer hair
flies, not knowing he'd have the fame in that area
that he does today, what would a fly like that be
worth???

Picked up my flies today. Nice job everyone
on peppers. They'll all see water except Tony's
that will join the size 20 Froggie he gave me many
moons ago in the swap flies I don't fish box.
Nice job with the swap, Chris.
