I've developed a fly that works well for stocked trout. Called the Disco Ball,
it's pretty simple:

1.. slip a red bead on a standard wet fly hook, around size 14
2.. tail is some Hungarian Partridge hackle fibers
3.. body is holographic mylar wound around shank or over lead
4.. bring thread over bead and put a sparse Hungarian Partridge hackle at the
head.

This fly really sparkles in the water. Good for off-color water as well. You
can troll it in lakes or swing it in current.

You can't go wrong with a green weenie. I was out today. I stay away from
the opening day circus, and hit the local PCB contaminated stream which hasn't
been stocked in 20 years or so. It now has a good population of very spooky
wild browns. I got skunked. Saw 5 trout and a bunch of suckers. Couldn't
even get the suckers to take a fly. I wait a couple of weeks before I hit the
local stocked stream. I do OK with CDC and Elks and midges on top, and
Beadhead, soft hackle PT Nymphs and small Green Weenies . They chase my bait
fish patterns, but they usually short strike them. Fathead minnows and rosie
reds are popular with the bait guys around here. So consider bringing some
streamers with you.

    Hey all,
I was wondering, what are your favorite flies for stocked trout?
Opening day is coming up here in SW PA and I'm getting my gear ready. I've
got some of my favorites to tie up, but was looking to expend and try some
new ones. The local stream I fish doesn't have many hatches and the ones it
does have a very small. I do ok using worm patterns, but nothing has done
well enough to be considered a "go to" fly. Thanks in advance.
