Folks: Do you have the same experience with bluegills as I do?? I just
cannot get them to bite very good in the crystal clear water cause we haven't
had
any rain to stir up the water.. I think it's cause the fish can see me as
good as I can see them, even though I'm casting out from 50-60ft in the boat
TRYING to hide from the fish.. But I think they can still see my fly line and
it scares them.. I try to land the fly/line/leader as gently as possible, but
it just seems that in slightly murky water I havemuch better luck. Anybody
else experience this??? a lot of ppl think that "ANYBODY can catch a
bluegill",
but the fact is they check out every bite they put in their mouths before
biting it, unlike, say, a bass and shell crackers (red eared sunfish) that is
sooo veracious, they seem to bite/eat, and ask questions later.. Or, is it
just that I am a sorry excuse for a fisherman??? Wait, don't answer that
one...Chuck

Chuck:
That doesn't seem to be an issue around here. I can stand on the bank or
in the water and sight fish for them. Sometimes they're in so close I can't
fish for them because I'm fishing an 8 1/2 foot rod. You can see bottom in
about 4 feet of water if that defines clear. Nothing like the lake I fish up
in Ontario where you can see the bottom in 10 feet of water. What happens
here is you often get to several following the fly and eventually one decides
if it doesn't eat one of the others will. So there's no tasting and spitting
out which I've seen happen, before I can set the hook.
