I don't know if this has anything to do with their biting or not, but what few panfish I have caught lately- on still or clear water - were on one of two fly patterns: [Jerry Goldsmith] Pete, I also use two flies for almost all of my bass and bream fishing. I am aware that I fish some of the best warm water any where in the world. In fact, after I post this I am going to bed as I leave very early in the morning to go the Everglades and the Miami canals for a few days of fishing. But my method of warmwater fishing varies very little. I also use the thinnest fluorocarbon I can get away with 4-6 lbs usually. I have 2 flies that I use for 90% of my fishing. 1. Steve Davenport's DP poppers. Simply put, they work and have worked under any amazing array of varying conditions. I switch between the black, chartreuse and white colors in size 6. http://www.dppoppers.com/ 2. Bill Byrd's Gillbuster size 8 or 6. Black. http://www.texasflyreport.com/patterns/pattern.aspx?id=15 for special occasions I also use two other flies. 3. a dropper below the DP Popper. anything small, green or olive 4. For the exotic fish in south Florida I will use a bright, heavy olive and white clouser tied in sizes #8 - #4. I almost always fish a 3wt. If I get a big bass, which I often do, I baby the fish as much as possible and pray it does not get snagged in cover. From my experience, I am convinced that I get more bites from bream and bass with the small flies than I did with the much larger flies I have thrown on a 6 or 8 wt in the past. And I know I have a heck of lot more fun. JG
