Thanks for the info. So the gist is, it depends on which airport, which TSA
people, and their mood at the time. The safest approach seems to be to
check anything questionable.
That's too bad about the DC experience, Jimi. Having flown in and out of
all the DC area airports a great deal over the last 5 years, I know that it
can be a frustrating TSA experience. Considering the importance of the
nearby US assets I think it's correct to have increased security in the DC
area airports, but I think they accomplish it through planned chaos rather
than competent security practices. JMHO.

Glad you had good fortune with them Deb.
I am still ticked at the TSA. Theresa and Amanda arrived back here at about
3 AM last Wednesday from their trip to DC. The kids had a great time
marching in the Memorial Day Parade in Washington. But, on the return trip
Amanda had a Snow Glob that she got for her Cross Country Coach, and a
"Special Washington Memorial Monument Globe" that she got for me. When they
got to the "Security" checks in DC, (and I use that term "very loosely",
She had to throw both of them in the trash because they "Contained to much
liquid". Even though they were in the "Factory sealed Box's, with the
stamped Price Tags", she had to throw them away. I was hurt when I heard
about it, but she was "Devastated" because of it. The worst part was,
almost "Everyone" in their group had to "Discard Stuff" of importance for
their families because it "Did not meet regulations", even though they were
"sealed" items for family members with a group of High Scholl Students
headed on a non stop flight home.
Personally. we as a family would rather hitch hike than subject ourselves
to the TSA and their "Stupid" policies. BTW, I have a right to say this, I
am a Vet who "Paid" a price for the "Privilege" to use a commercial
airline.
Sorry, but what they did to my daughter and Bride, as well as all the other
students and Chaperones on the trip precludes me of ever taking a
commercial flight again.
If I cant fly myself and family someplace, we will drive or hitch hike.
Sorry for the rant.

I carried some vintage blind eye salmon irons and some very large vintage
streamer hooks on a plane along with a fully dressed salmon fly to show
them
what the hooks were for.
Some of the hooks were at the least an 8/0 the fly was a 4/0 - 5/0 hook.
I did tell them ahead of time that they were in my bags and that the hooks
were irreplaceable so they couldn't insure them. I didn't have any
trouble.
You are supposed to be able to carry fishing tackle on but I would let them
know up front so you still have time to add it to your bag if you need to.
I had a back up plan with a relative on both ends waiting to make sure I
made it through the TSA with my package.
Truthfully .... although one of the TSA supervisors at one destination knew
I had them, I don't think the spot checkers even saw them in my bag.
Pull up the regulations and take a print out of them with you if you're
worried about it.
Regards,
Deb
