Hey, Ed (and all)-
I'm building my second 6'6" 2wt (forecast blank, from Hook and Hackle, no
association nor endorsement implied) and can say that it's useful for
"tight" streams / difficult-to-cast-in areas. I do use mine for panfish and
small rock bass, yellow perch, etc., but those few occasions when I catch a
trout with it, I have a grand ol' time but have to be careful not to "over-
play" the fish -- neither the line nor rod have snapped (knock on wood it
never will...), but it does make playing the fish a bigger challenge and the
time factor *could* hurt a fish if it used up too much energy in the play.
All in all, I'd say it's a useful tool, not just a novelty, but then
that's just my 2 cents. Personally, I prefer the taper in a 7'9" 3wt, but
then for me, a wet strand of spaghetti isn't limp/ slow action enough...
Again, fish what you like and like what you fish... Just my 2 cents worth,
Pete

one or build one I was wondering if they become just a novelty
shortly after, or something that is just used for pan fish. As
always thanks for your input. Ed
