I have to go along with Don on this especially trying
a rod with different lines. Here is my experience with
that. I got an experimental blank from a local
company, built it up and spooled up with the
recommended line. Went on a float trip the day after
it was finished and used it for the first time. It
being new to me, I felt I had to get used to it, I did
not feel comfortable with it. I had the guide cast it
and he said it was too soft. The other person with us
said he liked it real well. After using the rod
several times, I still was not comfortable with it. I
took the rod over to the company that made the blank
to cast it. He was able to cast it like a pro with the
same line. His casting style is different than mine. I
fished it some more and one day I was fishing it with
a guide that is a pro caster. He works at the flyshop.
He cast it and told me that I should change lines and
to bring it up to the flyshop where we could try
different lines. In testing the lines, one line stood
out above the rest. Needless to say, I now have this
line on this rod and am pleased with it. I use this
rod and my bamboo rod for all of the fishing I do. The
line was of the same weight as the one I had on it.
