Nice presentation.  Okay, I'll bite:

My own experiences would seem to indicate that at times with dry flies,
color (colour) can be
a deciding factor.  This has been true for me from panfish to bass to
trout.
   I would say also there are very few times (at least for myself) that the
fly floats so high that it becomes
just a shadow.   I have seen some photos taken from under water of floating
flies and colors were
visible.
    Now, reel me in!

Further to Joseph's e-mail, colour isn't important for dry flies. Assuming
the fly is floating then all the fish sees is a shadow against the brighter
sky. Colour is not important for dries.
