That is how I would get and use it. There is a ranch close by that has a dozen of them running around so I may get some from them. My last deer tail was from a road kill and it made fair hair flys. Also see a lot of squirrels and other critters but I am worried bout pests and diseases.
Keep plastic gloves in the car. Dress immediately and wash with soapy water. After pelt dries, nuke it in the microwave (best done when the spouse is absent) then freeze it for a couple of weeks.
Other suggestions? I also store all my furs and feathers in plastic 'shoe' boxes with moth crystals.
