ED,
CP is the bane of rod wrapping. It is nothing but
problems. Using Epoxy, the color will stay close to
the original, it will usually darken a half shade to
one shade. I have never had any luck with CP. It will
look good in the beginning but after a year or two,
there forms a "cloud" over the wraps. On Bamboo where
the rod is varnished, if you don't completely saturate
the wraps, the varnish will seep and leave dark spots.
The CP will keep the Epoxy from penetrating the wraps.
If you really want to use it you can mix 25% Elmers
White Glue with 75% water. I know some makers that use
this when they have to match colors on old rods that
need a wrap replaced. Another trick is to mix nail
polish with 50% Acatone so that it will penetrate the
wraps. This will also keep the Epoxy from really
penetrating the wraps all the way but it works better
than CP.
I would pass on it, I refuse to use it, if I am forced
to use CP, I will charge considerable more to finish a
rod.
If you need any info on finishing the wraps feel free
to contact me off list.
