My point isn't really what the thread is about. I'm aiming for what it is NOT about. JD would have stopped it right after the second post, just because of the nature of the post. But second post or not, he would have done it quickly anyway. As soon as people stopped mentioning the specific fly, which was very soon, this thread lost its (thin) link to tying... or fishing... or anywhere near. People are writing posts which look like pieces of professionally written speaches. They're talking about "structual orders in society", "genus connotations", "cultural codes" and "behaviour based on homosocial togetherness". The thread´s subject line was "Girly fly" and in the first post, the guy said that he "didn't mean the color of the wing" (which is pink)... and believe it or not, but they even attacked that... the fact that "the way men associate women with pink color, is limiting them as persons".
I guess they might have their points in what they are writing. Apparently one guy has worked with this for years... another is married to a DOCTOR in the subject. But the proper place for a debate like this sure isn't a fly-fishing bulletin board!!! After going through this thread, I'm pretty convinced that Swedish moderators don't know much about the meaning of 'moderating'. They got a title which made them stand out, but they never bothered to ask what it meant. /Nick -----Ursprungligt meddelande----- Från: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] För Byard Miller Skickat: den 23 augusti 2007 21:58 Till: [email protected] Ämne: Re: [VFB] Raging debate in Sweden... Here's another one. Ever since my daughter, Avery, was a wee lass, her mom's pet name for her was Pookie. A few years ago my boy child married a girl from the Philippines, where the native language is Tagalog. Prior to Jacob's return to the States with his new family, I purchased a Tagalog/English dictionary. Avery was quite upset upon learning that her nickname in Tagalog, puki, was a literal translation for a VERY private area of a woman. No one has dared call her Pookie since!
