Thats what I cann't figure, I soak my materials for 24hours in the case
of capes/marabou and longer for bucktail and the vinegar is at least
50/50 ( hence complaints from the neighbours about a strong vinegar smell.

It's not the saltwater it's most likely the dye job.
Remember to use clean materials and to wet them before you put them into the
dye bath. I use a heavy amount of vinegar. It makes the colors more
vibrant and sets it well. I have some friends that even use 1/2 vinegar 1/2
water. Everyone does it a little different but that has worked great for
me.
