Hey, Tom: There was a really nice hatch on Smith-Morehouse reservoir
last Saturday, about 5:00 in the afternoon. I had been hunting up above
on the Mud Flat road, and when I came back down, there was a lot of
feeding where the creek flows into the pond, and along the west bank.
Mostly on the upper end.

Well, the fishing was a bust, but my trip was fun. I tried doing
some surf fishing, but it seemed futile. Never have I felt more like

the proverbial idiot waving a stick! If I ever do it again, I will
go with someone who KNOWS there are fish in that surf. Without that
kind of support I ran out of faith. I also got wet. I was using my
waders, wading in surf up to my knees.... in theory anyway. In
practice, every now and then a wave would come up to my shoulders. I

should have been wearing a swim suit, then I wouldn't have minded. As

it was, I had to wring out my shirt, dry out my cell phone, empty my
waders... you get the drip.

But it truly was a fun visit; it was very nice to see my son and my
brother. Fishing isn't the only thing in life, after all.
