In short this list is what YOU make it. We have never been an "exclusive"
list so feel free to join in at any time and contribute.
Yes.... there are a few of us that tie things that most of you will never
fish with but if you want to learn just ask. I've never seen a group more
willing to teach than this one. There are no secrets here. I've learned
more tricks from this group of people than I've ever learned from United Fly
Tyers or any show I've attended. They don't hold back. Even Don O will
spill his secrets if you just ask him. Iain was the first to take me past
ordinary trout flies and saltwater flies to the world beyond....then Don O
moved in and I haven't been the same since. I still don't claim any alter
egos but I work with several of them. :)
I know that there are far more lurkers on this list than contributors and
some of them have a lot to offer. It's too bad they don't contribute. It
seems that they may want to just keep on top of what's going on and polish
their own skills but not share their knowledge for what ever reason.
More than once I've seen some of the better discussions that we've had here
on the VFB turn up in fly fishing/tying magazine articles of the same
content shortly after our discussions???!!! That could also mean that some
of our discussions have filtered out or seeped in from other forums. I just
found it interesting.
To me it sounds like we may have lurkers that need to contribute. I haven't
talked to Byard in a while about this list but I do remember some large
numbers in the past that surprised me when I considered the number that
actually posted to the list. I don't know if we still have those large
numbers or not. Byard has stepped back a little but has been nice enough to
keep the list going for us.
Yes we have to hit the delete key a lot on occasion but not nearly as much
as I did on the FF@ list. I enjoyed that list but I didn't have enough
time to keep up with both lists so I had to choose. VFB won hands down
because for the most part people are cordial and friendly to each other.
I guess this wasn't so short. <grin> When is a girls speech ever short?
Just my thoughts.
