Tom: Thanks for the info... That seems logical that it would go towards or away from the tier, instead of inline with the jaws of the vise, which would surely interfere with the fly at times...I think it would anyway. Chuck

Chuck, I have a Blackfoot Mongoose, which is the same vice but without the lever or the little lock down retaining nut on top. I like the vice and felt it was worth the money. You can buy better vices, but they also cost more, and this one has been fine for my needs. I'm pretty sure that the lever tightens going either way... toward or away from the tyer. I bought it to upgrade my Renzetti rotary which had some damage to the arm and was showing its age in other ways. I like the design of the Mongoose and it works great. So, I have been looking at all of them..I have a question about the Griffin Montana Mongoose (NOT that this is the one I want,I saw something in this one and a cpl others that I cannot recall right at the moment that I have a question about).I saw a photo of one at Lines End. Question is, does that lever(the lever that tightens the Jaws) not get right in your way??? Or does the lever move side to side????
