What kind of material are you trying to marry?  The quality of the material
as well as the kind of feathers you are using all effect the outcome.

It is much easier to marry turkey than mallard, wood duck or teal (soft
feathers) that tend to fall  apart when you tie them in.  Golden pheasant or
Amhearst aren't good feathers to start with.   For what ever reason an
Amgold marries better than the Golden or Amhearst that is why you see so
many tiers using the cross breed.

If you're using feathers with a lot of stress marks those won't marry well.

You need to make sure you are marrying a right side of the feather to
another right  side and that you have both feathers facing the right
direction.

If they're not marrying .. Chances are that you accidently got one of the
feathers turned around or upside down however you want to look at it.

I hope that made sense.   There are some great books out there for marrying
feather wings.  Are you going for Salmon flies or wet flies?
