Can you post full kernel output when saa7134 is loaded? I have more or less the opposite problem, TV audio seems to work fine (mono only) at least when I force the "EMPRESS" card type, but I can't get a proper picture from the card (not even from composite input) with saa7134-0.1.6. I get only grey noise. Most interesting would be the type of card detected in your case, since I am pretty sure the MD 9717 is _not_ in saa7134-cardlist.c yet..
