I hacked the bttv driver in 2.4.19-rc1 to do field syncing and changed the BTTV_FIELDNR ioctl to return the active field. Now I can use the deinterlace feature of my Matrox G400. I tried to use the deintrlacing without changing the active field and the interlace artifacts disappeared but the image looked rather blocky. And just using select() to time the field changes produces some odd flashing effects. With accurate field syncing the image looks much better.
