I am mainly interested in the sustainability of videoblogging speaking
in terms of time, not money.
For those who have a day job that they love, who have a family, or who
are students of literature, archaeology or biology - how could they
make videoblogging a sustainable hobby? I mean in terms of time. We
all know the hobby isn't that expensive once you have a computer and
that stills camera.
To me, videoblogging has pretty much been a Major hobby since
december. I have been as hooked on this as I could get on the most
addictive computergames when I was a teenager.
How do you go around keeping videoblogging sustainable in the long
run? Clearly we cannot all be like Ian Mills, posting once every day.
On the other hand, an active videoblog does take a few entries a
month. There should be some activity on it.
What is your experience? How do you keep your vlogging sustainable in
the long run? That is, making it a part of your weekly or monthly
rhytm?
When I was a kid, I could play chess and attend chess clubs. We would
meet once a week. Or, later, when I played volleyball in a team, we
would practice twice a week along with a few weekends.
I long for the day when we have vlogging clubs around the country and
the world. But the question then is: How would these be organized?
Isn't that an old-fashioned approach?
To me, a large part of the saying 'we are the media' is the part that
goes "we don't all have to be professional media". The Kever Report
clearly tries to be professional about it, get sponsorships, get
money, be rewarded for those hours of work. Fair enough. But the
majority of vloggers will not want to go there. The question then is
how we can make vlogging a part of our daily rhytm without getting
only 3 hours of sleep every night ;)
Best,
Raymond M. Kristiansen
