Sorry for sticking my nose in but this conversation about compresion settings has gone wrong somewhere.
If I play rocketboom in quicktime and show movie info, the bitrate is around 600 kbits/sec. This is what Id expect, the bitrate settings are similar to the standard advice given here by various people. 600 kbits/sec is 75 kbytes/second (8 bits in a byte for the purposes of this type of calculation) 6000 kbits/sec is large, larger than any videoblog would use. If Ive done my maths right then a DVD uses a bitrate of 8000-9000 kbits/sec and we know how large dvd movies are per minute. As a further comparison, DV and HDV is 25 Mbits, and that gives you files that are 13GB/Hour. Apple HD samples on their website, at very high resolution and H264, are often around the 6000-8000 kbits/sec bitrate, so for the low resolutions most vbieobloggers use it is waayyy overkill. If you are sure that you are putting 6000 in the kbit box, then either it is doing something odd with that number, or it is ignoring it. I know some codecs use either bitrate settings OR quality settings, but I havent used 3ivx that much. As a final bitrate comparison, when I start doing 960x540 H264 videoblogs, I'll probably use a bitrate as highas 2000kbits/sec for the quality version. Will use more traditional bitrates for lower res 480x270 version. Havent decided whether to just use H264 and be unviewable to many people yet.
