but you can transcode other formats to flv.
and you can use a flash wrapper/player which can provide some interactivity being discussed here.  these are free or cheap. just need a server to upload it to so it can be used on the web.  you dont have to buy or use expensive Flash MX 2004 Professional. 

the important point, to reiterate here.... is NOT to ONLY use flash. But DONT avoid it when you can feasibly incorporate it into your projects.  DO provide mp4 etc...

balance.... experiment.... dont be fooled by partial truths which can end up limiting your creativity and use of available technologies.
