Well this is the correct forum for newbie questions so don't be 
afraid to speak up. That's what the list is for.

Most digital camcorders have a digital pass through option that 
allows you to input an analog signal and the camera converts it to a 
digital one that can be captured on a computer (quicktime or iMovie 
on a Mac works great for this). If you already have a digital 
camcorder see if it has this function. It may not be obvious so read 
the manual carefully. This would be your best bet.
