Yeah, and it also depends on what kind of camera one will be using. Avid  
Free DV doesn't open the files from my digital still camera for example  
(neither does Movie Maker). I answer Movie Maker when people ask for free,  
but really recommend spending the $30 on Quicktime Pro - even if one's on  
a budget. MM is drag-drop, but QT Pro is cut-paste which was fine for  
people I've introduced it for. MM can do very few things QT Pro can't  
(transitions being the big one), and QT Pro does other things easier  
(multiple audio tracks, and voice-overs) plus you get the multiple export  
options in QT Pro.

MM does have that option. When exporting choose DV-PAL (or DV-NTSC if  
you're on an American version of Windows). You can open that file in QT  
Pro and export to whatever you want.
