For all its faults, and whilst its used for many other things as well,
youtube and that recent youtube meetup indicate to me that the
personal is not going to go away.

Im not sure its something the majority will come to do, Im not sure
how sustainable people who do it find it. How many abandoned blogs are
there, let alone vlogs? But this seems quite normal, like writing a
diary everybody isnt going to do it all of the time. Maybe in the
future it will be one of those new years resolutions lots of people
make and then break within a week or 2 :D

I hope & suspect that although we have not seen a total revolution in
this area yet, that people and video on the internet, is going to
create a lot of communities of one kind or another, and much of that
experience will be personal. Who knows if it will become some sort of
replacement for the old type of communities that are largely based on
geographical location, something that, like th extended family, has
been on the deline in quite a lot of countries in recent decades.

Im also interested in where we think 'personal' ends. Theres long been
an idea that consumer created media means lots of people are going to
post videos showing how much they love product x, and this is a
potential marketing wet dream becuase it has 'authenticity' and doesnt
require burntout ad & marketing creatives to have to keep coming up
with their own material so much. So far we have seen relatively
limited examples of this stuff happening, it seems like it will work
for some products but its not clear how large the consumer uptake will
be yet. So anyways a mass produced product & associated marketing may
be about as impersonal as you can get, but in the hands of an actual
peron, how personal does the resulting video become?

Cheers
