As long as you don't re-use them, DV tape is always available. Would you transfer everything onto a hard drive? And then back that drive up? With hi def we're talking about a lot of bytes, particularly with cinema verite documentary shooting. (Which I do.)
I deliver my videos in Flash at 512kbs in order to have a "streaming" effect for the widest possible audience. I would continue to do this even if I shot in hi def, but would lay off the hi def materials so that I could eventually come up programming that would take advantage of the new format.
