You know and are comfortable with FCP: get a mac.You know and are comfortable with Vegas: get a pc. You use Premiere: I'm so sorry. Learn FCP or Vegas. You use Avid: Your boss is choosing for you. You don't know any editing software and aren't comfortable with computers period: probably get a mac. You enjoy troubleshooting, or coding, or building things, or just generally geeking out: get either, run linux, use open source software.
They all do wonderful things, and they're all unreliable and never at the level of build quality or code quality that should be legally required to foist products on a paying public, but that's the modern world and there's probably no going back.
