Gilbert punched Louis Mayer which will tend to shorten your career. The
most interesting films are probably shows were talkie sequences were added
to silent film productions alas most are not easily available though I
believe the new restoration of All Quiet On The Western Front might have
them. You can also see a lot of very bad movies from 1928-29 where the
sound and acting are crude. Alibi is available. There are also two films
which really revolutionized the use of sound
Hallelujah and especially Applause. They basically showed the camera could
move again and sound could be truly integrated into the story.
