I'm not contradicting, I'm not a film maker my son Erez is, when I became a
pensioner I made 2 films with my son, and started a successful self
distribution of these 2 films.
The amount of work , scanning the web, collecting relevant addresses,
writing e-mails, invoices, keeping track on every DVD , I never made an
account on the hours I spend at the Comp, at post office etc'
I'm not complaining, but I'm a pensioner and it keeps me busy and doing
something important, helping not only my son but also some young (lady)
directors to market their films, that is why I say for film-maker make
films, if you start self distributing forget about making films.

Nahum--This post seems contradictory. You began helping filmmakers
distribute their films because you had good results self-distributing your
own films, then state that self-distribution is not worthwhile for
filmmakers. You are a filmmaker, I presume, and it was worthwhile for
you, else you wouldn't have began your company.

The essential take-away is that self-distribution is doable, is not
rocket-science, and after the initial push to establish an effective sales
platform, takes remarkably little effort, even if one continues a campaign
for years.

VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues
relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control,
preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and
related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective
working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication
between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and
distributors.
