I don't really expect many people to read the fine manual. Being a developer, you can of course read the fine source ;) I expect most people to learn of these things by trail and error. >> Otherwise window layout UI ones are saved automatically and only restored if >> you use the Preference->Startup->Restore Window Setup > > I can't get this to work: i enabled that option after opening Viking with no > arguments (and no default start up file), pressed F6 to get rid of the mark, > closed Viking and then restarted, and the center mark was back again. The restore window setup only does these: .Window maximised or otherwise size .Whether statusbar is shown .Whether the layers panel is shown .Whether the toolbar is shown The cross hairs and scale is left to the settings in the .vik file. I suppose I could extend the auto preferences to include these things and then if Viking is opened with a Viking file then those settings in the .vik file will take precedence. > >> ? Select is nicer to use because it doesn't pop up the dialog, > but maybe it should be moved into the next tool bar section? Since the Select tool operates independent of the layer selected, it lives in the VikWindow level of tools (which are Pan, Zoom & Ruler) Anyway also I think of Select is a kind of 'browse' tool. >> Probably - I never use these map types, so I don't notice when they go >> missing. > > Me either -- but when you first start using Viking it's not encouraging to > find a large number of the maps don't do anything, so i thought it was worth > cleaning them up a bit. Maybe there needs to be a visible warning when > download fails. Certainly some UI feedback about failing downloads should be done. I will add something that reports failures to the Info section of the statusbar. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Learn Graph Databases - Download FREE O'Reilly Book "Graph Databases" is the definitive new guide to graph databases and their applications.
