i downloaded and installed a recent openoffice spanish dictionary
(es_ES-pack.zip 06-Mar-2006 17:05 1.8M), and "y" is there all right, and
properly recognized by the spell checker in openoffice.

i created a new spl file based on this dictionary, and it works well in
vim. should i send it to you or upload it somewhere? i don't know how to
make a patch, diff shows this:

acme spell # diff es.latin1.spl esnew.latin1.spl
Files es.latin1.spl and esnew.latin1.spl differ

too different to make a patch? sorry, i don't use these tools too often, as
you can see..

of course there still are scores (hundreds?) of proper words missing.

i'd like to contribute somehow, but i still don't understand the format of
the aff and dic files well enough to edit them. i'm still searching for
some reference on the subject. any pointers?

that url points to the American Academy of Pediatrics... :-)
i guess you meant www.a-a-p.org?

best,
