The "exit 1" above won't exit the shell script - it exits only the
subshell. Perhaps you meant to use braces instead of parenthesis?:
hg config extensions.rebase || { echo -e "Rebase extension has to
be enabled in ~/.hgrc:\n[extensions]\nrebase =" && exit 1; }
