Étienne-Benoît, it sounds like you did not enable filetype-plugins in
your vimrc. Make sure that it contains one (and one only) of the lines

    filetype plugin on
    filetype plugin indent on
    runtime vimrc_example.vim
    source $VIMRUNTIME/vimrc_example.vim
