I guess I was not being clear enough: MacVim is dropping repeated keys because Vim can't keep up with the speed with which they are received. This is why you _perceive_ things to go slower in the GUI. The problem that is causing this is that editing over sshfs is slow. It has nothing to do with MacVim specifically. The guys on vim_use may be able to tell you why editing over sshfs is slow and how to fix it, but maybe they can't. They will not however tell you why the key repeat is slower in MacVim when editing over sshfs -- that is the question I have answered for you.
