OK. Quite possibly the sshfs thing was a red herring.

I have also found MacVim from time to time goes slow when I'm typing or scrolling. Not sure why yet. Can't reproduce it reliably yet.

I suspect it has something to do with syntax highlighting. I often find doing something like :syn off then :syn enable or even just ggG Ctrl-O Ctrl-O fixes it. Of course, I'd prefer it not to happen at all, though.
