As Jeri said, "there is a crisis going on". And what does that mean? 
Yesterday I heard on the radio news that in the USA there are people 
accepting work for _no pay_, yes, $0.00 a month, because otherwise, in 
the future they will "look bad" with a "hole" on their résumé...

Even so, if I were Jeri I would start looking at the jobs-offered 
section of newspapers and websites, and quietly inquire what kind of 
editor and other software they are using. Who knows? Maybe there _is_ a 
better job waiting for him. And already having a job puts him in a 
better bargaining position.
