Off the top of my head, I believe the "physical differences" referred to above are the variable speed floppy disk drives that early model Macintoshes were equipped with. If I understand correctly, these drives are why compact Macs were able to store 800k on a floppy vs. the 720k storage capacity of PC floppy drives of the same timeframe. That being the case, I'm fairly (though not 100%) sure that the only recourse a Mac Plus owner has is to ask someone else who has access to a SuperDrive-equipped Mac to make a boot disk for them.
