It's worth bearing in mind that, in this particular case, there may be a 
back-story behind the sale.

I say this because Palo Alto is not known for being the sort of place you live 
should you be worried about where your next meal is coming from.  If someone 
living there is trying to offload a collection of well-cared-for vintage 
hardware at the worst possible time they could conceivably pick for doing so, 
there is likely to be a compelling reason for their trying to make such a sale.

I agree that his asking price is likely to be a bit high relative to how much 
spare cash is floating around out there right now (i.e. not much).  However, 
the seller might be compelled by circumstances to wring whatever money he can 
out of his beloved vintage hardware, even if he doesn't actually happen to be 
in the mood to sell it.  As much as he may hate to part with his old computer 
gear, (and who wouldn't be loathe to?) he might currently be faced with the 
prospect of parting with his home.  

Just saying it's a possibility with the times being what they are, that's all.
