Are you downloading them using a web browser in Basilisk or downloading them
with the host OS then using another utility to copy the files into your
Basilisk disk image?

What's the host OS? Windows, OS X or Linux?

If you're downloading with the host OS you need to ensure the files are NOT
decoded from MacBinary (.bin extension) or BinHex (.hqx extension).

Then use a utility like HFVExplorer (for Windows) to copy the files to your
Basilisk disk image and have it automatically decode them.

If you're downloading within Basilisk, you need to use a browser that
automatically decodes .bin and .hqx files. Internet Explorer can do that.
(IMHO, IE was the best browser on the old Mac OS, mainly because it was pretty
much a direct copy of Netscape in how it worked.)

Once you have all the image parts decoded and all in the same folder,
doubleclicking the .smi file should mount it. Then you can copy the contents to
another disk image or a real disk like a Zip 100.

If you make an image for Basilisk just big enough to hold the contents of that
SMI, you can burn it to CD-R with Nero. It has an option for HFS under Burn
Image. There's most likely a Linux or OS X program that can do it.
Alternatively, make a 650 meg image and load it up with the contents of the
7.5.3 image, the 7.5.5 update images, Disk Copy, Stuffit Expander 5.5, Open
Transport and its updater and whatever else will fit.
