MacTCP IP does BootP which in theory will work with most DHCP
services, BUT... I'm not sure I'd want to try it anyway. Even if you
were using Open Transport it's DHCP didn't work well. I've always
just used static IPs with my pre-X systems.
At least in my experience, I've never managed to get BOOTP to work with
any DHCP server. I've tried a Linksys router running OpenWRT/udhcpd,
Windows Internet File Sharing, and a Cisco 2621 router. I've toyed with
setting up an actual BOOTP server on my network, but haven't had the
motivation to really mess with it since it's so easy to set a static one.
On the other hand, I've never had a problem with OT's DHCP. All the same
I've tended to stick with static IPs too just to avoid the boot delay.
