All computers have the pram or CMOS batteries.  After 20 years just one of 
those things no one cares thinking about until its too late.

The problem was a badly leaking battery with liquid acid and rust all around 
that area and the logic board. Another one for the trash. thx for all your 
advice. I didn't know there was a non-accessible battery inside the case that 
should have been removed for long term storage.
