May I just mention I have never gotten a non-functional Best Data modem,
either for PC or for Mac. The worst I ever got from them was one with a
non-functioning speaker...no modem squeals, but you had to watch your
connection carefully to find out if it was going through the handshaking
process correctly.

The current modem that is being used as a failover analog connection in my
network is a Best Data v90. Best Data has already gone to v92 which gives
you a faster upstream connection than the v90 spec. Both specs are
internationally recognized which suggests you should have no trouble in the
UK with it. It is on 24/7 and I've never had a problem.

Best Data is based in Chatsworth, CA, no more than a few miles from where I
live. It is comforting to know that if one of their modems actually failed
I could physically bring it to their offices and say "fix it." Of course
this is not a plus for you, being in the UK and all, but I've never had
occasion to actually do it.
