No. I've had that dilemma, too. I have a IIci I use to go after files on the
'Net. It makes perfect copies.
I insist your floppy drive may be defective. And the hard drive MAY be
damaged.
If you get a good copy of System 6.0.8 Disk Tools, and your floppy drive
DOES work, you'll be able to boot the Mac. More work then proceeds while
you, having just proven your floppy drive works, get a disk tools disk of
your system version on the hard drive, and boot your SE/30 with it. Then
open the System folder on the hard drive and see if your system and finder
are there, with no generic icons, ready to go.
Pull each out of the system folder, then replace them and try to boot again.
With the hard drive. If all else fails, you must reinstall, CLEAN INSTALL,
the system software.
To keep from pulling out your hair, use an LC or LC II as an external hard
drive, in conjunction with the cable from an external CD ROM or External
hard drive and that drive loaded with your system software.
