Yes, the HD is munted... at 4am in the morning I got frustrated so I pulled
out the HD, disassembled an Apple CD150 External drive, plonked the drive in
that and wired everything up... AMAZINGLY I was able to find jumper settings
for the old Conner drive on Seagate's website, so a few twists of solder
around the appropriate jumper prongs... neither my 7.6.1 or 9.1 systems
would boot up with it connected and on, so, with complete ignorance to all
those old wives' SCSI tales, I just flicked it on once I'd opened an app
called "Mt Everything"... it was able to see it, eventually mount it with
its own built-in drivers and thus I got my girlfriend's great
novel-in-progress safely elsewhere again (this is the second computer she's
cursed).

I was able to delete the drive but none of the half-dozen apps I tried could
repair or format it. From what I can tell it's an original disk, judging by
the amount of dust, so 13 years ain't bad really. Apparently this old thing
spins at 3,900rpm so replacing it with something vaguely modern should help
performance anyway.

Cheers, Ben.
