This means that the IR port on your mac responds to standard IR code for
consumer electronics, the so-called RC5 code, developed by Philips. Almost
all remotes use it. Tables for RC5 code exist. I'm sure that a search for
'RC5' and 'code' will give some info.

Very likely, you can assign some unused/less-used code to both the remote
and the Mac, to let the mac do some custom tricks (check mail, for example)
