Make sure the correct modem is selceted in the control panel, as well as the
speed (if you have a selection, either 57.6k or 115k).  I remember having
this problem as well, also on a PC.

The only other suggestion is get rid of dial-up, but if you do that, you
might wnt to drop the IIci...Just kidding folks.

I still recommend checking into FreePPP, when you install it, it will
configure itself using your PPP pref's
