I think this is what RA was headed toward in discussing
this subject in the abstract. This is a question that's
going to be asked and twisted in the coming years. All
of the copyright laws were written well before the
digital age (they were last updated in 1978, I believe)
and few anticipate the immediate problem: software and
hardware's accelerated declining usability. As with the
music business (who, let's face it deserve to be ripped
deep -- if it could only be done without hurting all
of the artists), digital realities are forcing a new
look at all of these issues. Currently, the laws do not
reflect the changed aspects of the market place. It's
unlikely that it will be changed soon.
