The IIsi and SE/30 slots are the same except the IIsi
runs faster.

You can hack up the metal frame of the SE/30 to use
the IIsi PowerCache adaptor. The best choice is to
find the Powercache adaptor made for the SE/30.

Life with these old Macs would be soooo much easier
had Apple simply used the exact same SE/30 and IIsi
PDS on all the 68030 Macs!

But noooo. SE/30 and IIsi use electrically and
physically identical PDS connections. Then the IIci,
the IIvi and IIvx come along with the same exact
connector but with wires swapped around so that
if you plug in an SE/30 or IIsi PDS card something
will fry. But that wasn't good enough! Apple puts
yet a different PDS in the LC and LCII then adds
an extention to the connector for the LCIII which is
in most of the 68k "Performa" line, including ones
with a 68040 CPU and if I remember correctly a few
of the PowerMacs. But there's also another PDS used
in some of the non-Performa 68040 Macs!

Had there been some semblance of looking beyond the
next model in their engineering, Apple might've had
a whole two different PDS setups, one for 030 and
one for 040 models. Then the only extra needed
would've been a right angle adaptor for the "pizza
box" and all in one models. :P (Or cards with the
connector on the side like ones for the LC series.)

Who needs standardization? Who needs to set a course
and stick to it instead of taking off on a new
path with practically every new model? :P Definately
not Apple between the time Steve Jobs left until the
end of the Beige Era!

I suppose that could be one reason why we stick with
theese computers. It's the sheer annoyance factor
of having to remember or lookup exactly what sort
of PDS each one has and what will plug in. Will it
work with an FPU on the card or not? Etc, etc. :)

The Apple of iMac and beyond is way more standardized
than it appears, compared to the Beige Era. Could be
why some of us consider it a bit boring now. Oh look.
_Another_ Mac with transparent plastic. *YAWN*.
Gimmie a PowerMac in a Black, Square, BOX. Dual AGP
(if it's possible) and at least five PCI slots.
Then I'd go get a new Mac. :)
