The primary expense is the cost of the data pipe.

The admin is pretty easy. If you want a fancier site, then it will
require more work, but the basic file archives are not a big deal.

I hope you don't think that saving archives of old computer files is
throwing money away.

It's also likely to require throwing away a lot more than $200. The
best colocation I can get right now is $50 a month. I already have the
hardware.

Of course: they die.  Most of the sites in question are endangered species.
They need to be preserved, or at least their contents.

Over the last year I have mirroed 3.5GB of sites whose various mirrors
have been gradually dying.

One day you might be glad someone threw away their money.
